Formal Name is District of Columbia as it is a federal district under the direct jurisdiction of the United States Congress. The District was created to serve as the nation’s capital and is home to the federal government, including the White House, Congress, and the Supreme Court. It is not part of any state, and its residents do not have voting representation in the United States Congress. It was named after George Washington, a Founding Father, commanding general of the Continental Army in the American Revolutionary War, and the first President of the United States. The district is named for Columbia, the female personification of the nation.

Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum: This museum has a huge collection of airplanes, spacecraft, and other objects related to aviation and space exploration. Kids will love seeing the actual Apollo 11 command module, as well as the many interactive exhibits and simulators.

National Museum of Natural History: The Natural History Museum is a great place for kids to learn about the world around them. They can see dinosaur skeletons, visit the Butterfly Pavilion, and explore the many interactive exhibits.

National Zoo: The National Zoo is home to over 2,000 animals from around the world, including pandas, lions, and elephants. Kids will love seeing the animals up close and learning about their habitats and behaviors.

National Mall: The National Mall is a great place for kids to run around and see some of DC’s most famous landmarks, such as the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, and the U.S. Capitol Building.

International Spy Museum: Kids who love spy movies and stories will enjoy the International Spy Museum. They can learn about the history of espionage, see gadgets and equipment used by real spies, and try their hand at solving spy-themed puzzles and challenges.
